Resumen:
The area between Bahía San Blas and Carmen de Patagones (Southern Buenos Aires Province, Argentina) has been of great historical importance from the 17th to the 20th centuries: notably, a key sailing route connecting Buenos Aires and Montevideo with harbors of Patagonia. However, the documentary sources on shipwrecks are relatively scarce and no previous work on maritime archaeology was available for the mentioned area. Novel studies reveal that the region has much more information to offer regarding sailing and shipbuilding in the South-American context. Since 2018 a combination of coastal surveys, excavations, photogrammetric recording and drone mapping of structural remains was applied at shipwrecks located in the shoreline. In this work the ongoing research on documentary studies, GIS cartography, 3D modeling of the sites and characterization analysis is presented. The temporal and spatial assessment of the structural remains and their post-depositional formation processes are discussed based on this data.
