The decisions to commit towards a cardiac cell fate are taken earlyduring development. Defects in the cardiac program entail complicationsin cell specification and may lead to congenital heart diseases.Known as the cardiac kernel, TBX5, GATA4 and NKX2-5are key players of the gene regulatory network governing cardiacdifferentiation.
