Resumen:
a focus on biblical exegesis will allow us to see how belief in the Christian devil and his powers was attacked at its source. This, I think, pertains to the process of “secularization of Scripture”, which considers the biblical text (or at least parts of it), not as Revelation, but as a human book, written at a given time and place and under certain cultural circumstances. It also emphasizes natural explanations at the expense of, and even in direct opposition to, supernatural and demonic ones.I want to study this process of secularization through the anti-demonological critique of Baruch Spinoza, Adriaan Koerbagh and Balthasar Bekker. Through this, we may see how what are thought to be sacred truths (in this case, devils, demoniac and exorcisms) in fact are grounded on cultural and historical bases.
