Resumen:
Mesenchymal stem cells are adult stem cells that can mainly originate derivatives of mesoderm lineages such as osteocytes, adipocytes and chondrocytes. These cells have been isolated from several tissues like bone marrow, muscle, endometrium, umbilical cord, sinovial fluid, and fat, among others, and they are being applied in cellular therapies for treating joint and bone injuries, resulting in an improved recovery rate across diverse livestock species and also in humans. In domestic birds, there are only few reports that have successfully isolated MSC from adipose tissue, whereas no reports are available in wild avian species. Therefore, in this study we aimed to isolate, culture and characterize MSC from avian species with the ultimate goal of developing cellular therapies and contributing to wildlife conservation.
