Resumen:
It has been suggested that the increased adipose tissue plus reduced skeletal muscle (SM) mass may contribute to the onset of cardiometabolic diseases. C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) system and renin angiotensin system (RAS) play a main role in cardiovascular system regulation in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. However, their role in SM remains relatively unexplored. The aim of our study was to evaluate SM morphology and the expression of components of CNP system and RAS in SM of high-fat fed rats (HFD).Experimental design: Male Wistar rats received HFD (60% of fat) or standard diet (SD) from weaning until the 14th week of life. At the end of the experimental period, body weight (BW) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) were measured. Animals were sacrificed and SM morphology was evaluated. Natriuretic peptide receptor B (NPR-B) and C (NPR-C), neprilysin (NEP), C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) and angiotensin converting enzyme (ECA1) expression were evaluated (RT-qPCR) in SM. Angiotensin II (Ang II) and angiotensin 1-7 (Ang1-7) were evaluated by radioimmunoassay. Also, CNP, Ang II receptor type 1 (AT1R) and 2 (AT1R) expression were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. The protocol was approved by Ethic Committee CICUAL-FFyB-UBA. Results are expressed as mean ± SEM. Statistical analysis: Student test (n=6 rats/group; *p
