Resumen:
Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disorder driven by intracellular deposition of misfolded α-synuclein (α-Syn). The tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline (DOX) shows promise against toxic α-Syn neurodegeneration in preclinical studies. However, the antibiotic effect of DOX hinders its use for long term treatments. Thus, we developed a reduced form of DOX (DDOX) with noantibiotic activity. Despite this, DDOX showed improved neuroprotective and anti-aggregant properties.
