Resumen:
The communication is part of the social´s behavior of the toads and other animals. Even though the release call is a specific variable of the toads are scarcely known. At February 2006, we record the release call of R. arenarum with the digital recorder (Olympus, VN 2000). The release calls were process whit Syrix bioacoustic´s software. We record 36 calls, the variables measured for the description was dominant frequency, total length of the “pulse trains” and the “inter-pulse trains”, number and lenght of pulses, and the form of the release call. The mean length of the pulse trains was 44.91 ± 1,56 milliseconds and to the inter-pulse trains was 117,13 ± 13,22 milliseconds. The number of pulse had a mean of 5,83 ± 0,23 and the mean length was 7,03 ± 0,41 milliseconds. The dominant frequency was 912,89 ± 19,36 Hz. The release call of the R. arenarum shown a characteristic form, composed by a last pulse steadily. The previous pulses are higher than this caracteristic last pulse. The release call is an agonistic signal emitted by the male toads when amplexed with others toad of the same sex. The release call provides phylogenetic information This information allows us to separate phylogenetically related species.
