ABSTRACT
During the development of the murine model of the
Equine herpesvirosis due to Equid
Herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1), different anesthetics were used. This model has
provided information regarding several pathological aspects of the disease and
repeats almost all the clinical signs of the affection in a similar way to the
natural host. Despite this, the knowledge about the early events of the
pulmonary immune response is confused, especially regarding the type and the
number of immune cell populations present in the infection foci. We
hypothesized that these differences are consequence of the interaction between
the anesthetic compounds and the virus. In order to contrast this hypothesis,
we experimentally infected mice with a unique EHV-1 strain under three
different anesthetics and we described the lesions found in the
