I would like topoint three main reasons why this is not a book by Schutz. First, when Schutzwrote it, hewas not yet the renowned philosopher he came to be. He was apromising youngscholar working on his PhD dissertation. Second, holding solelyto this early book would make us miss sight of the maturity ofSchutz’s thought,which blossomed in what scholars call his “American period”. Third, there hewas not yet openly exposing his own ideas but introducing the sociology of MaxWeber.
