Inter-turn short-circuits are the most frequent fault in power transformers. Conventional protection devices are not efficient to detect them in an incipient state, so offline strategies are generally used. In this paper, an online alternative strategy based on the measurement of electrical variables of the power transformer is proposed. The strategy is experimentally validated and shows efficiency in detecting faults between adjacent turns and it is not sensitive to power supply conditions or variations in the load of the transformer.
