Resumen:
Pinesawdust is a lignocellulosic waste from the primary processing of wood, highlyavailable in Argentina. It could be a promising raw material to producesecond-generation (2G) ethanol and its derivatives, like bioethylene-basedproducts. 2G bioethanol production requires sawdust fractionation to achievehigh cellulose yields. Lignin, a relevant source of aromatic organic compoundsto obtain high-valued and carbon-neutral lignin-based products, is generated asa byproduct. Currently, only a low percentage (2%) of the generated lignin, principally in pulp manufacturing processes, is destined for other applicationssuch as biomaterials; the remainder goes to combustion processes for energy generation. This work assesses two potential scenarios for pine sawdust valorization in abiorefinery frame. Organosolv pretreatments were applied to obtain bioethylene, lignin, fermentable sugars, and energy production.
