Resumen:
This work is developed as a contribution to the study of productivity growthusing Total Factor Productivity (TFP) to asses technological change inbroad periods of time. TFP measurement entails multiple processes, andthis paper will be particularly focused on the Biased Technological Changeand it?s implications on conceptual and empirical aspects. The main contributions of this paper are, on the first place, use theBiased Technological Change (BTC) concept to explain long-term special-ization patterns by bringing a novel interpretation of the indicator. Second,is to show the dynamics of the BTC at a sectoral level. Finally, to explorethe determinants of the BTC. The main results show that the specializationpatterns are path dependent and that the use of this kind of bias is a keyelement in the analysis of innovation cycles and economic trends.
