Resumen:
The chapter explores the nature of both, positive and negative bias, raising a debate about the implicationsof the latter. A conceptual discussion is developed in this sense, proposing analternative interpretation of the negative bias and an explanation of its recurrent presenceamongst countries and long periods of time. On top of that, it presents a novel contributionbased on a sector level BTC empirical analysis, using data for 19 sectors, 13 countriesand more than 30 years (1973-2005). The sector level BTC exhibits interesting dynamicsrelated to the sign of the bias, that are analyzed using a set of econometric models withdifferent strategies in the search of robustness of the results.
