Resumen:
Clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common type of renal cell carcinoma that occurs in adults. It has the worst prognosis among the common epithelial tumors of the kidney and it has greater morphological diversity and intra tumoral heterogeneity.Angiogenesis is an essential process in the progression of malignant tumors. Vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs) regulate vasculogenesis, angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. A new immune checkpoint has recently been described: the non-classical class I molecule human leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G). In particular, high incidence of HLA-G expression has been reported in ccRCC. It has a broader inhibitory effect by direct interaction with its receptors (ILT2 and ILT4 mainly). Furthermore, the ILT4 receptor was found in renal carcinoma cells, with positive relationship with VEGF A and C. The objective of the present study is to identify the different VEGF isoforms expressed in ccRCC and establish whether a significative relantionship with the HLA-G molecule. This information could be used as prognostic markers for patients susceptible to antiangiogenic therapy because actually these treatment has limited effects in ccRCC.
