Metal NPs were first studied for their applications in biology and medicine [1,2]. Metal nanowires found applications in solar cells [3], while metal films are used in development of plasmonic sensors and plasmonic waveguides [4].Applications are based on the optical properties at the nanoscale, which in turn, are based on knowledge of the size dependent dielectric function properties. In this work, it is obtained expressions for the damping constant (free (d)) [5] and plasma frequency (p(d)) [6] in terms of the film thicknesses. This dependence was determined by using a previously developed method [7] based on Drude model and considering experimental refractive index values for Au thin films [8]. Finally, the complex dielectric function for Au was determined based on the expressions derived for the film thickness dependence of the damping constant and plasma frequency. Keywords: Damping constant, plasma frequency, Au, nanoscale, thin film Acknowledgements: This work was granted by PIP CONICET 0279, MINCyT PME 2006-00018, 11/I237, 11/I239 of Facultad de Ingeniería at Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), PICT2018-04558 and PICT A 00074 of Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica, MINCyT, Argentina.
