Resumen:
Introduction: The rejection of a recent corneal graft favors the rejection of a previous transplant on the fellow eye, suggesting that one eye?s immune response conditions its fellow. Ocular surface disorders could affect the opposite eye in the same way. Objective: To evaluate the effect that a corneal lesion on one eye exerts over the conjunctival immune response of the opposite eye and the potential mechanisms involved.Study design: A unilateral chemical burn was induced in the cornea of Balb/c mice (day 1), and were then instilled with ovalbumin (OVA) daily (days 2-5) either in the same or the fellow eye. After subcutaneous immunization with OVA in adjuvant (day 8), induced T cell responses were measured by the delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response in the footpad (day 15). To assess the lymphatic drainage, fluorescent OVA was injected in the subconjunctival space of one eye and 2 hours later each cervical lymph node was separately harvested. Results: Compared with untreated mice, ocular OVA instillation before immunization reduced the DTH response (p
