Resumen:
Two interconnected and relevant processes arise in our century: the return of the State, under adynamic of de-globalization, and the repositioning of the Global South, with its heterogeneity andthe redefinition of the center-periphery dynamics. Both invite to retake old and new debates onthe ties between the State and capitalism. We propose a complementarity between perspectivesthat help to understand the substantial role of the State in a cartography characterized by theexistence of variegated macro-regions. We draw upon perspectives commonly presented asopposed concerning methodological approaches, but together allow a complementary reading ofthe present. From this exercise, we develop the notion of “state supremacy” to account for aparticular state configuration that emerges under the current cyclical crisis and help explain thereasons why, in this variegated scenario, the Sino-Asian space takes advantage of the new material phase of cyclical transformation.
