Resumen:
The stability of layered Ti4O7 anodes in terms of a model organic compound oxidation was evaluated by applying different currents. The feasibility of implementing cathodic polarization to recover the electrode activity was particularly explored. A significant decay in the activity was observed when the same electrode was employed repeteadly in experiments performed at 1 mA or at 3 mA. The loss of activity was more abrupt for the higher current applied. After 6 experiments, the electrode employed in experiments at 1mA was polarized cathodically. Activity was completely restored during the first usage, but a 20% and 90% decay was registered in the second and third cycles, respectively. Further work is being conducted regarding characterization of used electrodes to get insights on the deactivation mechanism, and to build strategies for maintaining long term electrochemical activity.
