Resumen:
Breast cancer is classified into different subtypes depending on the expression of certain molecular biomarkers. Triple negative (TN) is the subtype with the worst prognosis due to the lack of a consensus about the treatment. Paclitaxel (PX) is one of the chemotherapeutic drugs frequently used. In smoker patients, nicotine (NIC) stimulates lung cancer progression, so we aimed to analyze its effect in breast cancer. We studied if it increases the cell viability of TN breast cancer cells MDA-MB231, the effect of its chronic administration (216 h) on the efficacy of 48 h PX treatment and the signaling pathways involved. We determined by Western blot assays that these cells express a7 and a9 nicotinic receptors (NR).
