Resumen:
La Ballenera is a shipwreck identified as a commercial vessel that sunk in Algeciras Bay (Spain) while transporting a Ligurian ceramics cargo associated with the late 16th and early 17th centuries (1575-1625). This paper examines a set of artifacts from the site under the hypothesis that they are related to shipboard health treatment. Morphological-functional and distributional analyses are carried out, along with the exploration of archaeological and historical precedents related to health care for the period. From this approach, we distinguish the scope, limitations, or biases to evaluate these objects as part of social practices on board.
