The importance of building up a business archive: the experience in Bunge & Born Argentina

This article is about the importance of business archives, as well as the history and development of this type of archives worldwide and in Argentina. Particularly, this conference presents and describes the example of the archive of our local business company, Bunge & Born: its origins and its organization. The case presented here fully reflects our experience surrounding the construction of the Bunge & Born Argentina business archive. Our main objective is to show and expose the dialogue between the archival science theory related, almost exclusively, to public and government archives, and the action taken by archivists, historians, economists, and cultural managers on the documentary reservoir left by the business and social activities of the firm. An in-depth analysis is carried out on the impact of corporate bureaucracy on archival practices, specifically regarding the classification scheme. Finally, we present a synthesis of the digitalization process implemented on the existing documentation in the Bunge & Born archive.
