Resumen:
This work addresses the reception of the Gender Identity Law by healthcare professionals from theMetropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It sheds light over the variations surfacing in healthprofessionals discourse after the approval of the Gender Identity Law, particularly in theassessment of access to and outcomes of treatments requested by transgender people. The workportrays that the approval of the Gender Identity Law has paved the way to three discourse shiftsprevailing in the medical field: From diagnosis to follow-up; from protocol to customization; andfrom risk minimization to cost-benefit calculation. The primary conclusions set forth that eventhough the approval of the Gender Identity Law has helped to legitimate the needs of transgenderpeople in the medical field, advancing towards a depathologizing medical practice will demandconstant dialogue between transgender organizations, healthcare users, and healthcareprofessionals
