Resumen:
Francis Bacon was concerned with the characterization of prime matter from the beginning of his thoughts on nature (ca. 1604) until 1620, when the Novum Organum was published. His account of prime matter was deeply related to his view of atomism, which underwent significant changes. As we shall see, by 1620 he decided to leave aside the speculation about the ultimate constitution of matter due to changes in his view of causation within the context of the operative goals of his project of reform of science.
