Neuroprotective effects of a novel demeclocycline derivative lacking antibiotic activity

Recently, the tetracycline antibiotic Demeclocycline (DMC) was reported to prevent neurodegenerationinduced by aggregation of the Parkinson?s disease (PD)-associated protein a-Synuclein (aSN) (Braun et al.,2021). However, DMC antibiotic activity precludes its potential use for long-term treatments. Our aim was tosynthetize a new DMC derivative with no antibiotic activity and better neuroprotective effects.
