Resumen:
Background and Objective(s): The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) Core Sets for children and youth with CP sets out theoretical frameworks for standardized clinical assessments. However, the ICF Core Sets highlight what to measure but not how to measure the areas of functioning and disability. As such, the aim of this study was to develop a culturally sensitive toolbox of instruments to operationalize the ICF Core Sets for CP in Argentina.Study Design: Cross-sectional study.Study Participants & Setting: A panel of expert health and rehabilitation professionals with experience working with children with CP was formed. A convenience sample was selected from centers of reference specialized in motor disability from different provinces of Argentina, representing different social contexts. In total, 13 professionals participated from the disciplines of Physiatry (3), Pediatrics (3), General Medicine (1), Kinesiology (3), Speech Therapy (1) and Nutrition (2) from rehabilitation centers of 5 cities in Argentina (Jujuy, Mendoza, Córdoba, CABA and La Plata), and 2 coordinators with research experience.Materials/Methods: This cross-sectional study included a multi-step methodology: Stage 1: training panel of experts on ICF. Stage 2: Toolbox of measures: Consensus on the instruments to operationalize the Common Brief ICF Core Set for CP, Stage 3 in progress: Pilot test and profiles functioning using the proposed toolbox. The initial proposal of instruments (stage 2) was built in previous meetings from literature review and previous experience of other research teams. For the consensus process, the panel of experts evaluated the level of agreement of the instrument?s validity to assess the category and the feasibility of its application. Questions were asked with a Likert scale, giving them an assessment with five levels that ranged from totally agree to totally disagree, which was later converted into a percentage. In this stage, the Delphi method was used, which consists of evaluating the proposal, making the changes and repeating the action successively until a consensus is reached. The consensus process was accomplished when more than 80% agreement was obtained. Results: In the first round of consensus, more than 92.8% agreement [95% CI 88.9?96.7] was obtained in instruments to assess 15 of the 24 categories of the Common Brief ICF Core Set for CP. New options were developed for the remaining 9 categories. After the review and adjustments, a second consensus meeting was held and more than 95.6% agreement [95% CI 91.4?99.8] was obtained in the categories. Content and Revisions were conducted by an international expert (VS).Conclusions/Significance: We propose the first culturally sensitive toolbox of measures to evaluate the categories of the ICF Core Set for children and youth with CP in Argentina. The chosen tools are available and feasible to apply in the different contexts of rehabilitation centers in Argentina.
