MgAl2O4 spinel
oxide-supported Ni catalysts modified with Pr, have been prepared by the wet
impregnation method with 8 wt.% Ni and variable loadings of Pr (0, 1, 3 and 5
wt.%). The samples were characterized by XRD, BET area, TPR, SEM and TPO and
they were tested in the ethanol steam reforming reaction.
The XRD of the samples revealed the formation of
spinel phase MgAl2O4, NiO and weak lines of PrO2.
The increase of Pr content in the catalyst increased stability and resistance
to carbon deposition. Under reactive conditions, the system with 5 wt.% Pr was
very active. This catalytic system, although it presented filamentous, did not
show deactivation during the reaction time. The amount and type of carbon
deposit were depended on the Pr loading.
