Resumen:
We use the Alfven Wave Solar atmosphere Model (AWSoM) to simulate the background solar wind during the magnetically active phase of solar cycle 24 using ADAPT-HMI magnetograms. We validate the simulation predicted results with observations of the solar corona using AIA images and plasma observations at 1 AU. We obtain the optimal model parameters for the period of solar maximum and compare them to solar minimum results. The accurate modeling of the background solar wind is important for preparing the plasma environment into which CMEs can be launched.
