Resumen:
Scopolamine and hyoscyamine are tropane alkaloids widely used in medicine as anticholinergic agents. The biosynthesis of these compounds takes place mainly in the roots of a large number of species of Solanaceae. Hairy root cultures are a valuable alternative for in vitro production of these alkaloids. Hairy root cultures of Brugmansia candida were established. B. candida transformed roots showed a strong tendency towards dedifferentiation. Different strategies were tested to improve this situation.
