Resumen:
The archaeology from many coastal zones of Brazil, Uruguay and Patagonia illustrates an intensive exploitation of marine resources since Middle Holocene. In this chapter, the results of regional archaeological research on the Pampean Atlantic coast are presented. These findings relate the coastal occupation to Middle-Late Holocene hunter-gatherers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of the Pampean coast and the adjacent plains and also the significance of coastal and inland resources in the subsistence and the technology of those societies. Considering an occupational model for the use of coastal space by the same inland populations is proposed. In contrast to others South American regions, in this model marine fauna had a subsidiary role, complementary to the inland resources.
