Resumen:
In this paper we present the first results obtained from a private collection formed by 46 bone tools, recovered from the surface in the Saco Viejo archaeological area, San Antonio Bay (Río Negro). Because the high numbers of tools were well preserved, we could determine the physic structure (bone raw material and taxa) and identify the morphological groups. This lead to a first characterization of the bone technology used by hunter and gatherer groups that inhabited the Northpatagonian coast during Final Late Holocene. Subsequently, we made the functional analysis (using macro and microscopic techniques). After the analysis of all these lines of evidence, we concluded, in the one hand, that Saco Viejo bone technology was mainly oriented towards the work of lithic material. In general terms, we observed that the people using these tools had a deep knowledge about the properties that bone raw material offers in relation to certain uses and designs.
