Resumen:
In this paper, evidence about temporal tendencies in the use of coastal space and resources found in the R¨ªo Negro litoral (northern Patagonia, San Mat¨ªas Gulf) since middle Holocene times, is presented. This research was faced throughout the use of isotopic (paleodietary), archaeofaunistic and paleoenvironmental lines of evidence. As a main result a clear shift in dependence on marine resources was detected in late Holocene times. Isotopic data ¦Ä13C and ¦Ä15N) on 21 human remains showed a change from an "intensive" use of marine resources (from 3100 to 2200 yr BP) to a "¦Ä15N moderate" use of them (from1500 to 420 yr BP). On the other hand the archaeological faunal assemblages reveal a diversification in exploited species (toward terrestrial vertebrates) with  results coinciding with the paleodietary shift, while paleoenvironmental data ¦Ä18O y ¦Ä13C values on shell- midden mussels), indicate higher temperature and marine productivity during the period of intensive use.
