SummaryIn this thesis we assessed the contamination by heavy metals and pesticides ininland aquatic ecosystems on planktonic organisms of different trophic?levels: primary?producers and consumers, as well as the efficiency of accumulation of these pollutants by microalgae at a laboratory scale.Relevant information about the main characteristics involved in the quality of waterand sediments of streams of the Santa Fe Province not studied at presents, and theeffects of different xenobiotics on the plankton community at laboratory and field scales are tested. This knowledge can be considered in order to review the established national and international guiding levels for the protection of the aquatic biota. Moreover, we consider some species representatives of the Argentinian Littoral Fluvial as organisms suitable for toxicity tests. Finally, in order to consider possible biotechnological applications using C. vulgaris as a tool for environmental remediation, we propose this species for diminishing Copper, Lead,Cromium and Endosulfan concentrations from aqueous solutions and industrial effluents, so it is recommended to be used for treatments of wastewaters at higher scales.
