Avenida Velez Sarsfield 1600 - 5000 Córdoba. Argentina. jzygadlo@efn.uncor.edu Abstract. Medicinal plants from Argentina are reviewed. The review includes the following botanical families: Acanthaceae, Aquifoliaceae, Amaranthaceae, Amaryllidiaceae, Anacardiaceae, Anonaceae, Apocynaceae, Asteraceae, Bignoneaceae, Boraginaceae, Bromeliaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Gentianaceae, Lamiaceae, Polygonaceae, Portulacaceae, Rhamnaceae, Rutaceae, Sapindaceae, Simaroubaceae, Solanaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Turneraceae, Urticaceae and Verbenaceae. Among pharmacological properties, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, anti-diaorreioc, bronchodilator, antioxidant, carminative, hypotensive, anticonceptive, antimicrobian, antiviral, antirheumatic, expectorant, laxative, antispasmodic and antitumoral activity were studied. However, some injurious effects, as cytotoxic, allergic, hypertriglyceridemic, toxicogenic, dermatogenic and calcinogenic were also found. The present work deals with the majority of studies on medicinal plants from Flora of Argentina where the scientific evidence supports folk medicine. . Medicinal plants from Argentina are reviewed.
