The complex life cycle of decapod crustaceans is usually divided in four phases:embryonic, larval, juvenile and adult, which differ in habitat and physiology. Five crabs {Chasmagnathusgranulatus, Cyrtograpsus angulatus, C. altimanus, Uca uruguayensis and Panopeus meridionalis) and aprawn {Palaemonetes argentinus) inhabit Mar Chiquita. In this chapter the present knowledge of therelationships between organism and environment in the different phases of the ontogeny of these speciesis reviewed, with emphasis on the effects of salinity, the interactions between phases and the control ofrecruitment. Additionally, information on life history traits (reproductive and larval biology, fecundity,growth) is provided.
