Resumen:
This is a brief study of the vernacular dwellings of the Mapuche people on both sides of the Andes. A special reference is made to the so called "ruka" or house, to its orientation, organizational layout and building techniques. The end of the text is devoted to analyzing how the ruka tradition has evolved to respond to the challenges represented by both the incorporation of industrialized building materials and the adoption of more up-to-date layouts.
