For caridean shrimps species, that use estuaries for reproduction and have commercial value, many studies are restricted to dissertations and thesis not yet published. This chapter presents the status of knowledgement about the fecundity for brachyurans that inhabiting mangroves and for carideans, that use the estuarine area as part of its life cycle and an introduction defining many concepts and the variables that modulate the fecundity. For brachyuran crabs the studies have been carried out mainly in Grapsoidea and Ocypodoidea, the most abundant crab species in mangroves while for Caridea the studied genus are Macrobrachium, Atya, Palaemon, Potimirin and Alpheus. Complementary information such as fertility, the occurrence of multiple spawnings, reproductive investment and eggs size is also shown. The main factors that modulate fecundity (like female size or embryo developmental stage) and the type of analysis for its study are discussed and compared between species and populations and it is suggested the necessity to study many other species (mainly caridean shimps) and to standardize methodologies for future research.   Palabras chaves: fecundidade, investimento reprodutivo, fertilidade, Brachyura, Caridea Key words: fecundity, reproductive output, fertility, Brachyura, Caridea
