Resumen:
Heavy metals are considered as extremely toxic contaminants when present in aquatic systems. Morover, ions of heavy metals usually enter the cells through the same transport channels used by physiological important cations e.g. Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu and Zn (Luoma and Rainbow, 2005). They interfere with physiological activities such as photosynthesis, gaseous exchange and nutrient absorption (Rajesh and Madhoolika, 2005). The aim of this work was to improve the knowledge about the potential of planktonic organisms belonging to two trophic levels as Cr accumulators and the objectives were 1) to compare the bioconcentration of Cr by Chlorella sp. and D. magna; 2) to analyze the interaction between Cr and two physiological important metals (Zn and Fe) after being exposed to three concentrations of Cr(VI): 150, 280 and 350 mg/L, during 24 and 48 hs respectively. For chemical analysis we used Instrumental Neutronic Activation Analysis (INAA) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. To check for significant differences in the concentration of metals among both species we used the nonparametric Mann-Whitney-U test (
