While impunity persists in relation to corporate complicity in human rights violations, a rare set of accountability outcomes have emerged. Surprisingly, this is evident primarily in the global south and not in powerful instituions in the global north. This phenomenon of accountability ‘from below’ thus defies expectations in the existing transitional justice and business and human rights approaches. After briefly summarising the limitations of those approaches, this chapter presents an alternative – Archimedes’ Lever – framework.
