Resumen:
Violence against women (VAW) is an extreme manifestation of gender inequity, targetingwomen and girls because of their subordinate social status in society. According to UnitedNations (1993 ), VAW, a broad umbrella term, is any act of gender-based violence that resultsin, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or su ering to women, includingthreats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in publicor in private life. One of the most common forms of VAW is intimate partner violence (IPV)which includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse by an intimate partner. VAW is an important public health problem and human right concern rooted in genderinequalities. Therefore, there are a number of reasons to focus on healthcare systems for addressing VAW
