Resumen:
Nanotechnology in the biomedical and pharmacology field has awakened a revolution around its potential application as diagnostic and therapeutic agents. Nanosuspensions exhibit an amount of advantages contrasted to traditional forms of drug delivery. In the present chapter, the physical-chemical properties of the biopolymer chitosan –the 21st Century polysaccharide- as well as the ocular major challenges for therapy and diagnosis is firstly described. Secondly, the main findings about chitosan-based nanosuspension were highlighted and mentioned. The strategy was designed to overcome the ocular drug limitations imposed by organ anatomy and for the treatment of different ocular pathologies. Hence, the interaction between nanosuspensions and ocular barriers should translate into ocular nanomedicines innovations with a significant impact in clinical ophthalmology.
