Abstract Most of the indigenous peoples in Argentina are urban and the minorityare small producers. On the other hand, in several cases, these last ones do notbelong to an indigenous category, so only a minority belong to both categoriessimultaneously. Also, this composition changes radically depending on the differentregions of the country and placing them away from their natural area: the forests. Inthis context, cultural ecosystem services provided by forests can be defined as thoseconnected with provision and regulation functions, spiritual and educationaldimensions, which are a part of a cultural function of ecosystems. In particular, wediscovered that in most cases, these kinds of services are not being recognized,protected nor regulated by case law or actual regulations, except in some countriesof the region where it is starting to change this situation. Also, there are severalsetbacks which relate to environmental law ineffectiveness regarding the imple-mentation of valid regulation of native forests protection and of ecosystemsservices.
