Resumen:
,The use of enzymes in the synthesis of chemical products of industrial importance or for biotechnological applications is developing at high speed. Free enzymes, however, are thermal and chemically unstable. The immobilization on solid supports enhances their stability and allows their reutilization while facilitating the purification of the products. The performance of the enzyme depends largely on the selected support and strategy of immobilization. Chitosan is a natural biopolymer containing in its structure reactive amino and hydroxyl functional groups that can be used for covalent binding or, if charged, for electrostatic interactions with the enzyme. Herein, we review the most frequently used immobilization techniques employing different geometrical configurations of chitosan. We chose horseradish peroxidase, glucose oxidase and β?galactosidase to exemplify the more recently designed systems for their utilization as bioreactors or biosensors.
