The 21st century is characterized by numerous economic and regional challenges interlinked with many opportunities resulting from globalisation, new technologies and innovations which affect every aspect of life. In a fast-changing international political environment, pressed by financial crises, especially now due to the impacts of COVID-19, many diplomatic services must do more with less. The growing importance of innovation in regional, national, and foreign policies, requires a new set of ideas, principles, visions, strategies and practises to embrace global value chain innovation for competitive advantage. Becoming a global citizen for innovation requires a new vision, exploring complex frameworks for growth, and leaving no one behind. This chapter presents the current scenario for the Americas, persisting gaps and challenges to be addressed for Science and Innovation Diplomacy.
