Since the last quarter of the 19th century, the Salesian congregation was dedicated tohelp the children and the youth of the popular sectors, experiencing an unprecedented expansionthrough the foundation of a large number of oratories, professional schools, boarding schools, par-ishes, and missions across the country. In that context, the Salesians resorted to various cultural andassociative strategies to foster patriotic and nationalist feelings among their students. This workexplores those initiatives as elements through which the Salesians forged a national identity amongthe Cordoba community during liberal modernity.
