We propose to examine the role of certain temporal connectors - as representative particles of surface level ? in Spanish , contrasting response latencies and number of errors that occur in the processing of sentences that differ in the connector (Before/ After). Twenty participants were evaluated with a reaction time test. Sentences contained two successive events were read and immediately the participants had to choose which of two drawings made explicit the action that happened chronologically in first place. Response latencies for sentences preceded by After and including before among clauses were shorter than their counterparts (initial Before and after inter - clause). There were also more errors in sentences that broke the iconicity principle.
