Antifungal terpenoids from Hyalis argentea var. latisquama

Resumen:
A detailed chemical study of the aerial parts and rhizomes of Hyalis argentea var. latisquama D. Don ex Hook. & Arn yielded a great variety of sesqui and diterpenes. In total, twenty six compounds were isolated and identified, four of which were new: two ent- kaurenes, a diterpene lactone and an oxyonoseriolide. The antifungal activity of the isolated compounds was tested against the clinical relevant fungi Cryptococcus neoformans and Candida albicans. Lindenane type compounds showed the strongest antifungal activity followed by the moderately active guaianolides and by diterpenes which showed not significant antifungal activity.
