Resumen:
Richards (1973: 356), in his revision of the Sphaeroceridae (Arthropoda: Diptera) from the Australian Region, established the subgenus Popondetta Richards to accommodate two new species. Subsequently, Woodward (1978: 287) established the name Popondetta Woodward, as a monotypic genus in the rhyparochromine tribe Targaremini (Arthropoda: Hemiptera), including his new species P. montheiti known from a single male. Allen (1980: 468) established Popondetta Allen to accomodate the melanotaeniid fish Pseudomugil furcatus Nichols (Chordata: Atheriniformes); posteriorly a second species in the genus, Popondetta connieae Allen (1981), was described. Allen (1987), made aware of Woodward?s work, proposed the replacement name Popondichthys Allen 1987 for the preoccupied fish name. The homonymy of the dipteran and hemipteran names has not been resolved and no substitute name for Popondetta Woodward, the junior homonym, has been established. We here propose the following replacement name for the preoccupied Popondetta Woodward.
