Resumen:
Systematicarcheological research on the central and western Travesías region in Argentinaare in permanent development. Although earth ovens or botijos are continuously identified in the archeological record inthese territories, specific studies on these elements are still scarce. We haverecently initiated a multi-proxy study in western San Luis Province, Argentina. The activities carried out include a combined analysis of archeologicaldistribution, geoarcheology, and local community-based research. In this paper,we present the preliminary results of archeomagnetic studies performed usingthe combination of these evidence lines. The archeomagnetic dating of the earthoven in El Chimborazo locality provides an interval between 2355 y 2167 years BP. as the best estimate for its period of use. Themagnetic results also show evidence that the oven was exposed to fire only whenmanufactured in a place other than the locality where it was found. In this reconnaissance study, there is noevidence about its continued use for heating or cooking. The results obtainedallow to support early hypothesis about the use of these stoves as a waterstorage structures.
