Resumen:
 We present an undergraduate level experiment where the radius of a rubber balloon is measured as it is cooled with liquid nitrogen. It is found that for  balloons filled with simple condensable gases, the volume drops linearly with time. We compare our measurements with a simplified model derived from elementary statistical mechanics and thermodynamics that explains satisfactorily this behavior. Students are encouraged to test the validity of the model by repeating the experiment using either gas mixtures or non condensable gases.
