This article aims at exploring the idea of literature as the place of experience. To that end,three texts are analyzed in which a narrator experiences psychopharmacologicalsubstances: Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, by T. de Quincey; Artificial Paradises, by C.Baudelaire; and Hashish, by W. Benjamin. The article also draws on the notion of ?authority? asconceived by the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben and of what we refer to as being-in-the-drug.Keywords: Literature, experience, narcotics.
